Snow-covered sand dunes on the Ocean City beach.

The Ocean City boardwalk was uncrowded Friday morning.

You have to get up early to shoot good snow photos in Ocean City, Maryland. I can honestly report, without exaggeration, that we received a good two inches of snow overnight.  About twice what I had expected.

About half of the Ocean City snow melted by noon. The resort town this Friday looks like a big, melting snow cone on a summer day in Baltimore. Yep, the sun has been that bright today, but of course we have winter temperatures. The mercury was above freezing today, but I doubt if it hit 38.

Tonight it will get very cold throughout the Maryland region, and the snow and water that remains will turn to hard ice. Temperatures in the 20′s, and wind-chills in the teens, I hear. If anything, it will continue to get colder, and remain windy, as the weekend progresses.

Rows of snowy benches at Wicomico Street and the Boardwalk. In summer, those seats are filled with folks eating pizza and French fries.
Somerset Plaza was deserted at mid-day Friday, and still snow-covered, because the shadow of the Atlantic Hotel to the right kept the snow from melting. Did you know that the plaza is an Internet hot spot?
A snowy beachscape at the south end of the Boardwalk. This is a raw digital photo that I did not tweak at all on the Mac, and the photo shows the lack of attention.

Snow-covered steps up to the Boardwalk from the Somerset Plaza.

Many more Ocean City snow photos to come in the next post, within a few hours, I hope.
