Business Opportunities in Ocean City, 2011

BACK IN THE DAY, IT WASN'T SO EASY TO FIND A STORE AVAILABLE ON THE BOARDWALK.

I wonder what the global economy will bring us on Main Street America in 2011?

As a public service, your Ocean City Blog presents a sampling of business opportunities available in Ocean City, Maryland, this winter. I’m not recommending any of these businesses, mind you; just showing the variety of opportunities out there. I imagine there are many opportunities that aren’t as  obvious as the ones shown here, which were discovered by the journalistic method of driving around town and taking pictures.

A good first step toward opening your own business in Ocean City would be talking with a good Ocean City Realtor. You also might want to consult with your attorney and accountant. And please talk it over with your spouse. Probably not a good idea to walk in the door one evening and announce,

“Honey, call the moving van! We’re going to Ocean City to make our fortune in the sub shop business.”

What kind of business do you have in mind? What part of town would you prefer? Do you have any experience? Any capital?

A JEWELRY STORE.

HERE WE HAVE ONE PRETTY BIG STORE ON THE BOARDWALK, OR MAYBE TWO MEDIUM-SIZED STORES?

A FEW CHARMING, SMALLER RETAIL SPACES ARE AVAILABLE ON SOMERSET PLAZA, JUST OFF THE BOARDS.

OR MAYBE YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT THE MOTEL BUSINESS?

How much space do you think you might need?

YOUR NAME HERE?

ONE MORE CONDO STOREFRONT LEFT IN THIS NEW ROW OF SHOPS ON COASTAL HIGHWAY.

THE POSSIBILITIES FOR RETAILING ARE ENDLESS. UTILITIES AND PARKING LOTS ARE ALREADY ROUGHED IN FOR THIS BIG SHOPPING CENTER ON RT 50 IN WEST OC. I WONDER WHEN IT WILL BE FINISHED?

That’s enough photos to get your imagination working on a cold January night. If you want to be in business for the 2011 season in Ocean City, you’ve got no time to waste. Remember: A seasonal business is not for the faint-hearted! More business opportunity photos tomorrow or the next day.

You can see last year’s business opportunities report here.
